Title: Status and Plans for the National Geodetic Survey’s Gravity Database Update

Abstract:

Accurate surface gravity is not only vital for precise regional geoid determination, but it can also be used as an independent data set for validating satellite gravity models. The national geodetic survey (NGS) has a long history of collecting gravity data – it dated back more than 80 years ago. NGS gravity database contains more than millions point gravity data and the time spans from 1920s to today. Due to time variation and Earth’s crust movement, not mention other error sources in the data, there is an urgent need for an update. We will present the current NGS gravity database status and plans for possible future update.
